Design

The exterior design of the 718 Cayman has an unmistakable silhouette with the flyline typical of a mid-mounted engine. The front end appears even wider from the horizontal geometry of the air intakes. The fenders, which are higher than the hood, have been designed to make the headlights stand out.

The rear of the 718 models is designed for maximum sporting performance. The rear wing automatically extends from speeds of 78 mph, and reduces lift for better roadholding. An accent trim between the two tail lights makes the rear end look wider and the tailpipe is centrally positioned in the rear fascia.

Interior

The dashboard gives a striking appearance thanks to the emphasis on the horizontal. The ascending center console shortens the reach between the steering wheel, gear lever, and selector for maximum comfort while driving. Porsche Communication Management System features a 7-inch touchscreen display with a high quality glass surface.

Derived from the 918 Spyder, the available GT Sport Steering Wheel has a smaller diameter to further enhance the cockpit feel and has a Race-Tex finish on the 718 GTS 4.0 models. There is also an instrument cluster which includes three circular instruments with an integrated 4.6-inch color screen.

Performance

The 718 Cayman is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged horizontally opposed engine with direct fuel injection, VarioCam Plus and integrated dry-sump lubrication. It gets up to 300 horsepower with a maximum torque of 280 lb-ft.

The 6-speed manual transmission is optimally matched to the engine’s characteristics while the gear lever is shortened for fast and sporty shift throws. With the Sport button drivers can select a suspension set-up that emphasizes either comfort or sport performance. The dynamics of the engine become even more direct at the push of a button.
