Porsche has a long and proud tradition of making sporty, upscale cars. It also has a strong reputation for moving with the times. And it’s in this spirit that the popular small Macan crossover is being offered as an all-new electric vehicle for 2024. At our Ontario dealership, you can explore the Macan EV alongside the gas-powered model for yourself. Our Porsche experts looked at the new Macan EV and put together an overview of its standout features. If you want to see how it performs on the road, feel free to contact Porsche Ontario for a test drive.
Porsche offers two powertrain options for the first edition of its EV Macan. The first is called 4 Electric, which features a 95-kWh battery pack with dual motors. According to a test drive with a prototype performed by Car and Driver, the 4 Electric version of the Macan EV can put out 382 horsepower and make the dash from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds.
Your second, more powerful option is the Macan Turbo Electric. This trim is powered by the same battery pack and also has dual motors. However, its output jumps to 576 horsepower. This added boost can shift you from 0 to 60 mph in a remarkable 2.9 seconds.
If you’re focused on speed and performance, you’ll probably want to take advantage of the overboost system. In the Base 4 Electric, it can temporarily push your output to 402 horsepower, and to 630 horsepower in the Turbo Electric. You can also rely on an adaptive air suspension that cushions rough terrain and improves handling around corners. You can also enjoy the view thanks to the Macan’s panoramic sunroof as you cruise around Rancho Cucamonga.
The base Macan EV is equipped with 20-inch wheels and all-weather tires, ensuring a combination of high performance and utility in tough driving conditions. If you move up the trim ladder, you can opt for 21-inch or 22-inch wheels. You also get improved headlights for better visibility on Rowland Heights roads and torque vectoring for improved handling. The optional rear-wheel steering is also a must-have for sporty driving fans.
The official driving range limits for the Macan EV remain to be confirmed. However, we expect them to fall somewhere between 250 and 300 miles, depending on the trim you choose. A Car and Driver test drive managed 250 miles on the highway with a full charge and still had 11% of battery power left.
You can charge the Macan EV with level 1, level 2, or level 3 fast chargers. Its 800-volt charging system enables the Macan’s battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in a mere 21 minutes. If you charge at home with a level 2 charger, you can fully load your battery overnight.
You won’t need to spend much time in the Macan EV cabin to be convinced of its luxurious credentials. The base setup features leather upholstery and heated and power-adjustable front seats. You can make the cabin comfortable with a dual-zone climate control. There’s also a heated steering wheel for the driver. The Porsche Macan EV’s dimensions make it a comfortable ride for adult passengers in both rows.
If you approach the Turbo Electric trim, front-row passengers gain ventilated front seats. Heated seats are added to the rear row, and the climate control is upgraded to a four-zone system so that each Chino Hills passenger can choose their own temperature. The top trim also features sports front seats for added comfort and more adjustable positions.
The Macan EV’s infotainment system features a 10.9-inch touchscreen for accessing your favorite features. The higher trim adds a display on the passenger’s side so that whoever is riding there can select their infotainment choices without distracting the driver. The standard digital gauge cluster allows you to monitor your Porsche’s performance. If you opt for the Sport Chrono trim, you also get analogue and digital stopwatches to monitor your acceleration times.
Connectivity is provided by Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Thanks to the Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless phone charging, you can easily stay in touch with everyone while you’re on the go, which will help ensure your cell phone doesn’t run low on battery. If you enjoy music or podcasts, the 10-speaker stereo in the base trim is a good option. You can opt for a Bose stereo or a surround-sound system for premium performance.
The Macan EV’s wide range of safety features includes a front collision mitigation system that can apply brakes to avoid accidents. You also get adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. The optional surround-view parking camera can make things easier when you’re navigating a busy parking lot or tight spot. If you’d rather rely on cutting-edge technology, Porsche also offers an automated parking system to maneuver your vehicle in and out of a parking position.
InoDrive is an optional safety upgrade combining adaptive cruise control and lane centering. It can adjust steering so that you stay in the middle of your lane on the highway and don’t get too close to other motorists. The head-up display displays performance and navigation information on your windshield, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to check this information.
