Behind a Division That Carries the Family Name
Porsche Ontario's story starts with Walter Kienle, a mechanic born in Germany to Swiss parents who came to the United States in 1948. Army service stationed him in Riverside, and in 1960 he opened a repair shop there specializing in European vehicles. Five years later he was selling the cars he'd been repairing, and that one shop grew into Walter's Automotive Group. In July 2020, sixty years after Walter's first shop opened, Porsche Ontario joined the group as Porsche's 193rd dealer partner in the United States and the sixth Walter's dealership. The 72,000-square-foot facility was built with more than 32 service stalls, a two-story service area customers can see into, and Porsche Heritage Motorsport artwork throughout. Walter passed away in December 2017, less than three years before Porsche Ontario opened, and his son Steve Kienle leads the group today. The dealership operates as Kienle Motorsports, the only dealership in the group to carry the Kienle name, and as an Authorized Porsche Classic Service Center it brings the story full circle: a family business that started out repairing European cars still keeps vintage ones on the road.
