How Do You Check The Oil on a Classic Porsche 911?

Motor oil is a vital component for any vehicle, but it’s especially important to keep up with the oil levels in your classic Porsche 911 so it can run at its best for many years. In newer vehicles the oil level can be checked from an electronic oil monitor, however if you have a classic Porsche 911 you will need to check it manually.

How to Check The Oil Level

Checking the oil level in your classic Porsche 911 will require you to use the dipstick that is located under the hood. You should also make sure to turn on the car or drive it for a little bit to make sure that engine can heat up for an accurate read. To manually check your oil simply follow these steps:

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground
  2. Turn the car off
  3. Under the hood, locate the oil dipstick
  4. Remove the dipstick and use a rag to clean the oil off the end of the stick
  5. Place the cleaned dipstick back in the tube and pull it out once more to reveal the oil level

If the top of the dipstick has an oil streak between two marks or a cross-hatched area, your engine has enough oil. If not, your vehicle needs more oil. Refer to your owner’s manual for the correct amount of oil to add to the vehicle.
